As a mother, daughter, granddaughter, niece, and aunt of veterans who have served in every war from World War I to the present, I am honored to be part of a proud legacy. I’ve also had the privilege of being adopted by VFW Post 3001 in Jerome. They needed a bugler for military honors, and, with the charm only veterans can muster, they persuaded me—whom they affectionately called "Wendy" because I called them my "lost boys." Now, as part of their adventures, I do my best to keep their spirited shenanigans in check.
What I have learned from loving these wonderful veterans is that they love deeply, and because they love deeply, their scars run deep. They continue to put others before themselves, even fifty-plus years later, and many of their memories remain as vivid as if they happened yesterday. They guard these memories closely, sharing full details only with the brothers and sisters they served alongside.
I remember the “Lost Boys” sharing memories with each other, sometimes forgetting that I hadn’t served with them. They would laugh, cry, and sometimes stand in silence, reflecting on their missions. I was honored and blessed to be included in these moments, standing there, trying to keep “ice in my veins” to hold back tears. They told me this every time I played taps, but despite my efforts, I couldn’t help but cry each time as I watched them honor their comrades one last time. There is a bond there that few will ever truly understand.
As a mother, I had a love-hate relationship with the airport. I loved it when I could welcome them home, and I hated it when I had to watch them depart. They would always look back and blow a kiss. Just writing this brings tears to my eyes because I know so many families are sending off their loved ones to serve somewhere far away. I have always believed that when one person serves, the whole family serves. And to my Gold Star Families, your sacrifices are never forgotten—we love you. John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
As I would tell my sons, “This is part of your journey. Never look back in regret. Always know your self-worth, and remember that we are blessed and honored by the sacrifices you’ve made and the scars you carry.”
To all veterans: know that you are loved, appreciated, and deeply admired. Thank you for loving us enough to serve your country.

URGENT! FYI on the Benny Johnson show (see YouTube) "DC Swamp Declares WAR on TRUMP in Senate Battle to REPLACE Mitch McConnell! We EXPOSED Secret Ballot" he shows the leaked list of how all the Senators will be voting in the Secret ballot. RINO Idaho Senators, Risch and Crapo will be voting for anti-Trump Senator Cornyn. This is despite the fact that the Idaho GOP and Dorothy Moon have endorsed Rick Scott, who has been a strong supporter of Trump! Please tell everyone you know to call the Senator's office in Boise and let them know that we know what they are doing and we won't forget. Let's flood all their offices on this. Very disappointing.
Thanks for raising your kids up right and thank you for your service and theirs.
